Mega poultry bazaar opens in Guangzhou, China

The Jiangcun Poultry Wholesale Bazaar (JPWB), touted as the largest poultry wholesale poultry bazaar serving Southeast Asia, has begun operations in Guanzhou, Guangdong province.

The bazaar, built at a cost of US$5.35 million, covers an area of 120,000 square metres (or 18 soccer fields).

It would house more than 200 booths from poultry producers and farms and serve as a hub for poultry trading in China as well as Southeast Asia.

The bazaar is expected to sell more than 100 million chickens, ducks, geese and other poultry each year worth RMB 4 billion (US$535 million).

More than a tenth of the poultry in Guangdong province, a region already known as a major poultry production region in China, would be traded at the bazaar, Tan Jutian, chairman of JPWB said.
