Russia ceases meat imports from US facilities

Russia will temporarily stop importing meat from the Tyson Fresh Meats facility in Nebraska and the National Beef plant in Kansas, US.

Russia's Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Oversight will restrict the imports due to laboratory inspections which found mesophilic aerobic and facultative anaerobic microorganisms in beef from the National Beef facility and the feed addictive ractopamine in pork produced by Tyson Fresh Meats.

Meat imports from these plants will have to be laboratory inspected, the service said.

A Tyson Foods spokesman said the firm is cooperating with US and Russian officials to relist the Madison plant. Tyson still has two other plants eligible to export pork to Russia.
