China completes over 70 percent of autumn, winter sowing

China has sown 34.67 million hectares of autumn and winter crops, which accounted for 73.8 percent of the planned total, according to the latest statistics from the Ministry of Agriculture.

China's grain output for this year is expected to increase slightly over the previous year, and in doing so achieve its sixth consecutive year of bumper harvest.

Currently, the related authorities are strengthening policy support for autumn and winter sowing in an effort to build a solid foundation for next year's good harvest.

Sun Zhengcai, the agriculture minister, previously said that agricultural production in the autumn and winter would help to stabilise the planting area and lift average yield. The ministry hopes that more than 22.2 million hectares of winter wheat and above 6.67 million hectares of winter rapeseed in planting area can be maintained.
