UAE bans poultry imports from Spain
The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has banned poultry imports from Spain on Thursday (Oct 29) after bird flu cases were detected in the European country, according to state-owned news agency WAM.
All agencies and organisations concerned have put the decision into effect as soon as it was announced, said Ibrahim Jailany, director of the Quarantine Department of the Ministry of Environment and Water.
The UAE has stopped live poultry imports from several countries since the bird flu outbreak in an effort to prevent the spread of the disease in the country.
Earlier in October, the Ministry of Environment and Water issued a decree allowing poultry imports from German states of Bavaria and Brandenburg, following the lifting of a ban on poultry imports from South Africa.
