Ukraine pig population up slightly in September
                         


In September, the Ukrainian pig population rose by 1 percent or 76,900 heads compared with August, to 7,462,400 heads as of October 1, 2009, the State Statistics Committee has reported.

 

Pig population in private farms fell by 0.3 percent or 14,600 heads to 4,171,400 heads, and rose by 2.9 percent or 91,500 heads to 3,291,500 heads in specialised farms, compared to August.

 

The pig population rose by 8 percent or 552,400 heads against October 1, 2008.

 

Specifically, pig population rose by 17.4 percent or 488,400 heads in specialised farms, and by 1.6 percent or 64,000 heads in private farms.

 

According to local reports, the pig population in August went up by 0.8 percent or 59,700 heads compared with July, to 7,385,500 heads as of September 1.
