India's FMD outbreak claims 33 head of cattle

 

 

Foot and mouth disease (FMD) had hit the state of Karnataka, India,  claiming 33 head of cattle so far, said officials from the Department of Animal Husbandry during a review meeting of the Karnataka Development Programmes (KDP). 

 
In order to prevent FMD from spreading, the department has stepped up vaccination efforts. Cattle-rearing farmers have been briefed on precautions to save their herds. Farmers who had been affected by cattle losses, were provided compensation sums of US$406 each, officials said.

 

Officials from the Department of Health and Family Welfare have also reported that precautionary measures were taken to ccontrol the spread of the epidemics. They also added that health centres have been provided with vaccines and medicines.
