US beef output falls two percent in September
US produced 1.01 million tonnes of beef in September, down two percent year-on-year, according to the USDA's latest Livestock Slaughter report.
Cattle slaughter was down three percent to 2.81 million head, while the average live weight was up 6.35kg compared to 2008, to 594.6kg, reflecting the favourable US seasonal conditions, cool weather over summer and lower feed prices so far in 2009.
In addition, pork production reached 907,775 tonnes in September, up one percent year-on-year.
