Fish Breeders in Indonesia Face Adversity Due to Drought
A prolonged drought in Sanden, Bantul, Indonesia has caused almost 500 fish ponds to dry up.
The drought had cost breeders millions of rupiah, according to Sukamto, the secretary of the Sanden Fish Breeders Association.
The ponds are harvested by about 250 fish breeders every three months. They could earn a net profit of between Rp 350,000 and Rp 750,000 a harvest.
People in the district had depended on fish breeding for a valuable extra source of income for years.
