Global markets

FOB prices of Peruvian prime-grade fishmeal were unchanged in the range of US$1,590-1,600/tonnes amid tightening supplies.

Market participants projected lower fishing quota for the upcoming season due to disappointing study results.

Market analysis

Sales of aqua feed slowed as the production of aquaculture dwindled further. However, some producers increased stockpiles prudently amid concerns that the import costs of fishmeal would surge prominently should renminbi tumble further. Prices of fishmeal were therefore stable over the week in review.

Price quotes for prime-grade products increased to the range of RMB12,000-12,200/tonne.

Market forecast

Fishmeal market is poised to remain stable in the coming weeks as supplies from Peru are tight. Moreover, traders will be reluctant to negotiate prices as renminbi seems likely to depreciate further, hence lifting import costs.
