China's wholesale meat prices increase in September
China's wholesale meat prices increased during September from the previous month, following the trend set by other commodities in the country.
Meat prices also averaged 3% to 12% higher compared with the same time last year and sheep meat remained the most expensive meat in China.
Adding to the inflationary price pressure during September was the reduced supply of local red meat, this pushed sheep meat prices up 7% year-on-year to RMB32.61/kg (US$4.88/kg). Beef prices during September also rose 3% compared with the same time last year, to RMB30.06/kg (US$4.49/kg).
Wholesale prices for imported Brazilian shin shank in September was at RMB32.5/kg (US$4.86/kg), which was higher than Australian shin shank prices, averaging at RMB29.5/kg (US$4.41/kg).
Pork prices continued to be strong at RMB17.74/kg (US$2.65) during September, 9% above the same time last year. Whole chicken prices increased 12% year-on-year for the fourth consecutive month, averaging RMB13.11/kg (US$1.96/kg) in September.
