China's official calls for stronger agricultural cooperation

Chinese Vice Premier Hui Liangyu called Tuesday (Oct 26) for further regional agricultural cooperation among the member states of Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).

Hui called on SCO member states to enhance agricultural cooperation mechanism construction and to deepen pragmatic cooperation in agricultural technology, training and trade and investment. He proposed that member states enhance agricultural exchanges, highlight priority areas for cooperation, improve the cooperative mechanism and accelerate the facilitation of agricultural trade and investment.

He also suggested member states expand cooperation in germplasm resources, agricultural machinery, biotechnology, soil improvement and water-efficient agriculture.

The SCO, established in 2001, has six member states: China, Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.
