Market analysis

Light demand continued to drive down the prices of methionine in China. With imports of methionine plentiful, feed millers were not eager to stockpile inventories, preferring to purchases as and when required.

In Europe, prices of methionine for Q4 deliveries stayed at EUR2.75-2.88/kg. Price quotes for Chinese products were unchanged at EUR2.72/kg.

Market forecast

Methionine market is expected to stay weak with supplies ample and the poultry market showing no signs of recovery. However, as renminbi has depreciated tremendously of late, hence driving up import costs, distributors will be more prudent in negotiating prices in the coming period.
