Vietnam province creates global standard-conforming seafood farms

Vietnam's An Giang has recently asked businesses and farmers to cooperate to build tra and basa fish farming areas that meet Global Good Agricultural Practice (GAP) standards.

For the sustainable development of the seafood industry, the province has already established five farming areas and five companies (Agrifish, Afiex, Asia Food, Viet Nan and Ntaco) that have signed contracts with fishermen. With a total farming area of 253.7 hectares, the province is expected to produce 155,700 tonnes of fish per year, meeting the demand for tra fish as well as the province's safety and hygiene standards for exports

Currently, Thuan An Trading and Services Co, Ltd has competed procedures to build a Global GAP standard farming area to produce more than 20,000 tonnes of tra fish per year.

The province is encouraging fishermen to expand the model to help the aquaculture sector develop steadily, and supply enough tra fish for processing and export in the future.
