Norel & Nature introduces new additive to restrain mycotoxins

Press Release

In order to reduce the harmful effects of mycotoxins, Norel & Nature has developed Toxinor, based on the combination of montmorillonite, sepiolite, and diatomite.

Both montmorillonite and sepiolite are three-layered clay minerals and will bind mycotoxins between layers as well as on the surface. These phyllosilicates also undergo a process of purification and activation.

Diatomite is an opaline slica consisting of fossilised remains of diatoms, a type of hard-shelled algae. The fossil skeletons are very small (two microns to one mm) and porous, acting like a sieve and can trap some mycotoxins such as aflatoxins, T-2 toxin and Zearalenone.

Toxinor is stable and active at different levels of pH and temperature, and demonstrates a very good efficacy against aflatoxins, ochratoxin A and zearalenone in vitro.

Toxinor is also effective, to a lesser extent, against fumonisin B1 and T-2 toxin. In vivo trials in swine and poultry indicate that Toxinor reduces the impact of aflatoxins, zearalenone, ochratoxins and fumonisins, as well as trichothecenes (vomitoxin and T-2 toxin).

Besides ensuring optimum growth and productivity of animals, Toxinor also helps the control the hygroscopic degree in feed, allowing a better pellet quality and guaranteeing a longer shelf life of feeds.
