Germany reports new case of mad cow disease

Germany's government has recently confirmed a new case of mad cow disease, or BSE, in the state of Bavaria. This marked the 139th BSE case in the state and the sixth confirmed this year.

The government said the cow was almost five years old.

So far, 379 BSE cases have been confirmed in Germany by mid-August this year, of which 136 were in Bavaria. Since then, three more cases have been confirmed in Bavaria including the latest one.
