Denmark's pig production forecast to decline 7% in 2012
Denmark's pig production sector is forecast to decrease by 7% this year and by 5% in 2013 and in order to maintain productivity, investments in the Danish pig breeding sector need to be increased by at least 50%.
According to Lindhart Nielsen, head of the Danish Pig Research Centre, an investment level of DKK1.40 billion (US$243.51 million) in the past few years is simply not enough in a long term perspective.
The pig breeding sector has asked for the government to earmark emergency funds to the sector.
