Ukraine exports US$2.8 million of agricultural products to Bangladesh
In January-August 2012, Ukraine exported US$2.8 million worth of agricultural products to Bangladesh.
According to UKRINFORM, citing the press service of the Ukrainian Agricultural Policy and Food Ministry, total turnover for this period was US$3.9 million. In 2011, Ukraine exported US$34.9 million worth of agricultural products to Bangladesh.
The deepening of cooperation between the two countries was discussed at a meeting between Agricultural Policy and Food Minister Mykola Prysiazhniuk and Bangladeshi Ambassador to Ukraine Saiful Hoque.
"Ukraine is interested in deepening cooperation with Bangladesh. One of the promising areas for Ukraine is the construction of port infrastructure in the People's Republic of Bangladesh. Moreover, Ukraine is interested in increasing exports of poultry, egg powder and sunflower oil to the Bangladeshi market," Prysiazhniuk said.
Hoque, in turn, stressed the importance of the meeting and the intensification of cooperation with Ukraine.
"I am glad that I have the opportunity to meet with you and discuss cooperation. Food safety is the No. one issue for us. We attach great importance to relations with Ukraine," the Bangladeshi ambassador said.
Prysiazhniuk added that Ukraine was interested in supplying crops, animal products, sunflower oil and confectionery to the Bangladeshi market. The minister also confirmed Ukraine's interest in the development of infrastructure projects in the port of Chittagong. In particular, the issue concerns the construction of elevators and the supply of port equipment, as well as the construction of a flour mill and facilities for handling sunflower oil.
The parties also agreed to set up working groups to deal with these areas of cooperation.
