US September catfish feed deliveries down 3%

US catfish feed deliveries in the month of September dropped 3% to 82,912 tonnes compared to September 2009, and 11% down from August 2010.

Food-sized catfish feed delivered totaled 77,963 tonnes, down 5% from the corresponding month a year ago. Feed delivered for fingerlings and broodfish totaled 4,949 tonnes, up 41% from the corresponding month a year ago.

September feed delivered to Mississippi catfish growers for foodsize fish totaled 37,849 tonnes, down 8% from last year. Mississippi accounted for 49% of the total foodsize catfish feed delivered to US farmers.

The other major US states with catfish feed deliveries for food-sized fish in September and their comparison to the previous year are: Alabama with 25,700 tonnes, up 5%; Arkansas with 7,740 tonnes, down 19%; and Louisiana with 500 tonnes, down 58%.
