Mengniu's "Telunsu" wins award at International Dairy Fair

The International Dairy Fair (IDF), has conferred an award to a Chinese dairy for the first time in its hundred year history.

Mengniu's "Telunsu" milk brand on Sunday (Oct 22) was given the New Product Development award by the IDF. The IDF Awards were held once every four years.

IDF, a non-profit organisation with 49 member countries covering 74 percent of world dairy production, is the world's top dairy organisation.

Up until now, winners of the IDF Awards have been dairies from major dairy producing countries such as the US, Australia and countries in the EU. In clinching the award, Mengniu has beaten more than a dozen other competitors, achieving a first for China.

Telunsu in Mongolian means "golden milk".

Mengniu, the top dairy in China, recently reported a 60 percent increase in revenue for the first half of the year compared to the same period last year.

Net profit reached 343.4 million RMB (US$43.2 million) during the first six months in 2006, an increase of 39.3 percent compared with the same period of 2005.
