EU export refunds for poultry reduced by one-third

Due to high EU average broiler prices and tighter supplies, poultry export refunds are being reduced by one-third.

The change means the refunds for frozen poultry (65%-70%) are reduced to EUR21.70 (US$28.08) per 100 kilogrammes.

"The change is a response to the current market situation," said an EU spokesman. "The EU average broiler price remains very high… (which is) 9.6% higher than the five-year average."

Refunds are only payable on exports to the following destinations - Commonwealth of Independent States, (Ukraine, Belarus, Moldova, Russia, Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan), Angola, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, Oman, UAE, Jordan, Yemen, Lebanon, Iraq and Iran.

In April this year, the EU Commission removed all export refunds on eggs, except albumin, to some Asian markets.
