Dutch piglet export in Europe up 2 percent

Piglet exports in Europe are up 2.23 percent in the first three quarters of this year, according to the Dutch Livestock, Meat and Eggs Board (PVE) as reported in the Agrarisch Dagblad.

Germany remains the largest importer of Dutch piglets, with exports rising nearly 13 percent.

Export to Belgium has also risen by around 16 percent to 46,640 piglets.

Spain, however, has reduced its imports by 15 percent

The Aujeszky's disease, which causes high mortality in piglets, is seen to be hampering Dutch export capability. The disease, also known as pseudorabies, is endemic in the Netherlands and Poland.
