Ukraine harvests 3.548 million tonnes corn to Oct 20

Ukraine harvested 3.548 million tonnes of corn to Friday (Oct 20) on 1 million hectares, 55 percent of the total area to be harvested, with an average yield of 3.55 tonnes a hectare, the APK-Inform market analyst reported Monday, quoting a source at the Agriculture Ministry.

The ministry said Aug 17 Ukraine's plans to harvest 8 million tonnes of corn this year had been disrupted by hot and dry weather, and this year's harvest was not likely to exceed 6 million-6.5 million tonnes.

In 2005 Ukraine's corn harvest fell by 1.7 million tonnes on the year to 7.17 million tonnes.

This year corn planted area increased by 10.8 percent from 2005 to 1.9 million hectares.
