Danone releases aid programme for Romania's farmers

Danone Romania, in partnership with Heifer Romania Foundation and the Danone Ecosystem investment fund, has introduced a socio-economic aid plan for farmers in the less developed regions of Romania.

The project will last about four years.

The purpose of Danone's programme is to encourage small farmers to deliver quality milk and associate in order to develop sustainable businesses. Families which are part of the scheme receive free livestock and training.

Some 800 families will benefit from the programme and in the first two years about 200 Holstein-Frise cows will be donated.

The only condition is that each family that receives a cow must agree to later pass on themselves a heifer cow to others in need.
