Australia 2009-10 wheat forecast 23 million tonnes, up 7.5 percent on-year
Australian wheat production this crop year will reach 23.0 million tonnes, up a little from a September estimate and if achieved up 7.5 percent from actual output of 21.4 million tonnes last crop year ended March 31, 2009, National Australia Bank Ltd. forecast Friday (October 23).
Spring rainfall through some wheat lands has lifted yield expectations, said the bank's s General Manager of Agribusiness Khan Horne, citing South Australia state and areas in western Victoria state, with production in some of these areas to be the highest on record.
"Unfortunately, not everyone was as lucky and it's been a tough finish in Queensland and New South Wales, with rain coming too late for some and others missing out completely," he said in a statement.
