Russia's October 1 pig numbers up 7 percent; cows down on-year
The number of pigs in Russia on October 1 was 17.6 million, an increase of 7 percent on the year-earlier period, the federal statistics service said in a statement Monday (October 22).
Total cattle number on October 1 was 22.4 million, 0.5 percent less than a year ago. The total cattle number included 9.4 million cows, a fall of 1.3 percent on the year.
The number of sheep and goats on October 1 was 21.9 million, 6.2 percent more than on October 1 2006.
Total meat production in the country in January-September increased by about 9 percent on the year to 5.4 million tonnes in live weight.
