Lithuania's State Food and Veterinary Service (VMVT) has banned exports of live pigs to Russia in an attempt to safeguard Lithuania against African swine fever.
Moreover, pig hauliers have been instructed to take additional measures to wash and disinfect their vehicles.
The VMVT has banned exports of live pigs from Lithuania to the Republics of Chechnya, Kabardino-Balkaria, North Ossetia, Dagestan, Kalmykia, Adygea and Ingushetia, as well as the territories of Stavropol and Krasnodar and the regions of Orenburg, Rostov and Volgograd.
Moreover, the authority strengthened veterinary border controls on the imports of animals, animal products, raw materials of animal origin and fodder from Russia in the airports of Vilnius, Kaunas and Palanga as well as in the port of Klaipeda.
