Japan confirms first AH1N1 infection of pig

A pig at a farm in Osaka Prefecture has been found infected with the AH1N1 flu virus, the first swine infection in Japan, the farm ministry said Wednesday (Oct 21).

The Osaka prefectural government said it has requested the farm ship or relocate its pigs after confirming they have not been infected with H1N1.

The agriculture ministry also indicated they will not be culling the pigs.

Eating heat-treated meat from an infected pig will not cause any human infection, the ministry added.
