Meat production up 14 percent in Russian Far East territory
Meat production in The Primorsky Territory in the Russian Far East has increased 14 percent since the start of the year to 23,600 tonnes, according to Vladivostok Times.
The Primorsky Territory shares a border with northern China.
Pork and poultry products were responsible for most of the increase. The leaders of manufacturing are Artyom, Mikhailovka and Partizansk Districts agriculture farms.
Increased meat production was thanks to state support measures, especially in cattle-breeding.
The Territory and Federal governments have allocated a combined R 80 million (US$3.23 million) for an eight-year programme on the building, reconstruction and modernization of cattle-breeding farms.
The Territory would also see a modern 75,000 pig-breeding complex in Spassk District to be operational during the first quarter of 2008.
The Territory also allocated R 18,5 million (US$746,000 ) the program on developing pig-breeding farms in which free grain would be distributed to farms annually in return for meeting pig production targets. The programme led to 17,000 pigs being brought to market this year.
