US 2008/09 corn acres at 85.8 million; soy at 71.7 million
Private analytical firm Informa Economics estimated 2008/09 US corn planted acreage at 85.8 million acres and soy planted acreage at 71.7 million acres, traders said Friday (October 19).
The corn planted acreage estimate is down from the 93.6 million acres seeded by US farmers in 2007/08 according to the US Department of Agriculture, while the firm's soy planted acreage estimate is larger than the 63.7 million acres planted this year.
The firm estimated US 2008/09 all wheat acreage at 63.7 million acres, up from the 60.4 million planted in 2007/08.
Friday's corn acreage estimate is down from the firm's previous acreage outlook, while soy and wheat acres have increased. In September, Informa estimated 2008/09 corn acres at 88.2 million, soy at 68.9 million and all wheat at 62.6 million acres.
