Subdued demand holds China methionine market weak

Prices of methionine were stable to lower during the week ending October 20.

Even though the availability of methionine was tight due to the production halt of the local producer, prices softened in several regions. As human victims of H7N9 bird flu diseases were reported of late poultry producers withheld purchases amid concerns that an epidemic might erupt again.

Price quotes of imported dl-methionine fell to the range of RMB25.50-26.50/kg.

Weakened demand will hamper the sales of methionine in China.
