Global markets

Strong forward sales of Peruvian new-season fishmeal, half of which had already been booked, propped up FAQ fishmeal prices to US$1,270/tonne over the week.

Market analysis

Fishmeal market strengthened further on surging international prices and reduced domestic inventory pressure. Demand for premium-grade fishmeal, which were used in high-quality hog feed, zoomed up over the week while sales of average-grade fishmeal slumped as China's aqua production wound down.

Market forecast

Fishmeal market looks upbeat in the week ahead while waiting for Peru's upcoming fishing policy for the new season.
