EU pork prices plummet

Prices of pork in several European Union countries have dramatically fallen in a number of European countries in the last eight weeks, although there is a difference from country to country, reports the German website ISN.

In the last eight weeks, corrected prices for Irish finisher pigs dropped 0.08 euros (US$0.11) per kilogramme (kg) but in Spain prices dropped 0.27 euros (US$0.40)/kg. In Germany, prices dropped by 0.21 euros.

On the other hand, prices have stabilised in some countries like Germany, Austria and the Republic of Ireland this week while prices in the Netherlands, Denmark, France and Spain continued to drop. Prices in Sweden and the UK have also dropped.

Whether prices for finisher pigs will continue to drop or will stabilise will become clear in the next couple of days.
