Wayne Farms to shut poultry processing plant
US poultry processor Wayne Farms LLC will phase out its further processing facility in College Park, Georgia, which would eliminate nearly 600 jobs by the first quarter of 2009.
Wayne Farms CEO and president Elton Maddox said the move was based on changing market conditions and a variety of business factors.
Closing the plant and moving production to other company facilities will maximise efficiencies, which would be in line with the company's long-term business strategy to allocate assets and resources efficiently, according to Maddox.
