US commodity commission to release historical commitment of traders' data

The US Commodity Futures Trading Commission Tuesday (October 20) will release more than three years of history of disaggregated data included in the weekly Commitments of Traders reports, the agency said Monday.

History for the 22 commodity futures markets contained in the weekly disaggregated commitments reports will date to June 13, 2006. The CFTC started publishing its disaggregated commitments of traders' reports on September 4, to provide more transparency about entities involved in trading activity.

"Economists have for decades recognized that transparency benefits the marketplace," CFTC Chairman Gary Gensler said in a press release. "By releasing three years of history, we will provide regulators, market participants and the public with additional transparency."

The CFTC said it does not maintain a history of large trader classifications. Current classifications are used to classify the historical positions of each reportable trader.
