Vietnam's shrimp harvest at 77 percent of 2005 target

Vietnam has so far harvested 228,361 tonnes of shrimps, or 77 percent of its yearly target, the country's Ministry of Fisheries announced.

Of the total volume, the Mekong Delta provinces produced 198,104 tonnes of shrimps, accounting for 86.7 percent of the country's total shrimp output. Southern-central provinces produced 8,961 tonnes while central coastal provinces produced another 9,470 tonnes.

To raise the country's shrimp rearing efficiency, the Ministry of Fisheries is encouraging the local aquaculture industry to speed up its shrimp quarantine operations. The ministry also urged Mekong Delta localities to prepare themselves against the seasonal floods.
