Japan spends US$405.06 million in seafood imports
Japan spent over US$405.06 million on importing seafood from Vietnam in the year to September 15 and remained the biggest importer of Vietnamese shrimps.
The figure accounted for 26.87% of the country's total shrimp export revenues in the period, the Vietnam Customs said.
The US ranked second with an import value of US$311.28 million while the EU ranked third with imported worth of US$213.4 million. Particularly, Germany and the UK were top importers of Vietnamese shrimp with respective values of US$55.38 million and US$35.36 million.
China and the ASEAN followed with import values of US$164.45 million and US$25.25 million, respectively.
As of October 15, Vietnam earned revenues of US$1.507 billion from exporting shrimp products to 89 markets, the government agency said without giving comparative figures.
Shrimp is one of Vietnamese export staples. In 2012, the country targets to earn US$2.5 billion from shrimp exports, slightly higher from US$2.39 billion in 2011.
