Azerbaijan raises grain import
The import of grain to Azerbaijan increased sharply in the past two months with the August-September supplies totalling 280,000 tonnes.
A total of 890,000 tonnes of grain was imported in the first nine months of 2010, a 28.7% rise on-year. The January-July supplies were at 87,000 tonnes per month.
The state has imported lots of grain since 2009, but the exact figure of the grain bought by the State Grain Fund has not been reported. According to unofficial reports, 500,000 tonnes of grain should be purchased in 2010 for the purpose of regulating the internal prices of bread.
The production of grain and beans has fallen by 35% to 1.85 million tonnes in Azerbaijan this year.
