Pioneer Hi-Bred offers 26 new soy varieties for 2010
Pioneer Hi-Bred, a DuPont business, is adding 26 new Y Series Pioneer® brand soy varieties to its lineup for 2010, which offer growers protection against yield-robbing pests.
All new varieties were part of the Y series lineup which is a defensive package against soy cyst nematode (SCN), sudden death syndrome (SDS), Phytophthora root rot and iron chlorosis, said the company.
The class consists of 20 products with SCN resistance, five low linolenic products, and one non-GMO product.
New Pioneer variety 90Y50, a mid-Group 0 product, shows strong agronomic traits with high iron deficiency tolerance, Rps1k Phytophthora resistance and good field tolerance, and it is great for the Red River Valley area.
91Y80, a late Group I, also has Rps1k Phytophthora resistance as well as SCN resistance. Additionally, this variety has strong defensive traits against iron chlorosis and outstanding yield performance in a variety of growing environments.
Growers in South Dakota, Wisconsin, northern Iowa and into southern Minnesota would benefit from planting 91Y80, said Don Schafer, Pioneer senior marketing manager.
Pioneer variety 93Y51 offers growers from Iowa to the East Coast Rps1k Phytophthora resistance and SCN resistance along with a strong defensive package. The variety has proven to be a high-yielding product across multiple geographies.
93Y92, a late Group III product with SCN resistance, is packaged with a strong agronomic and defensive package, which strengthens the late Group III offerings to growers
Pioneer is also offering a new indeterminate variety, 95Y01, which offers growers a longer flowering season. This variety allows the soy plant to grow taller, increasing the number of pods per plant. An early Group V product, it has both strong agronomic and defensive traits.
Through testing, 95Y01 showed great standability and harvestability. It was a good characteristic for a plant that had potential to become very tall and thrive in tough environments in mid-South and Delta geographies, said Schafer.
