Poultry and pork output growing in China's Yunnan province
Yunnan's pork and poultry sector is growing strongly, especially with live poultry output up 11.5 percent and breeding sow population up 8.3 percent.
Live poultry output reached 9.83 million in the first three quarters of 2007, up by 11.5 percent on-year, according to information released by the National Bureau of Statistics on October 17th.
The live poultry stock reached 1 million at the end of September, up by 2.9 percent on-year, with poultry output at 168,100 tonnes, up by 12.2 percent on-year.
Live pig output reached 18.7 million heads in the first three quarters of 2007, up by 2.5 percent on-year. September pig population was 30.0 million pigs, up by 4.4 percent on-year.
Pork output is at 1.66 million tonnes, up by 1.8 percent, according to information released by the National Bureau of Statistics on October 17th.
Breeding sow population was at 2.9354 million, up by 8.3 percent on-year, indicating more piglets would be born and a possible easing of prices in the near term.
Overall, the province's meat output reached 2 million tonnes in the first three quarters of 2007, up by 3.5 percent on-year, according to the National Bureau of Statistics.
Dairy output rose 14.8 percent to 266,100 tonnes reflecting the rising popularity of milk in the nation whereas egg output saw an even stronger 21.1 percent increase to 161,100 tonnes
