Taiwan short of Australian beef as demand from other markets build up
Taiwan has reported a shortage of Australian chilled beef wholesale in recent weeks as strong demand for Australian beef in key markets siphoned supply from the Taiwanese market, Meat & Livestock Australia(MLA) reported.
Demand for Australian beef has been particularly strong for the South Korea and Japan markets, where US beef has yet to make a strong recovery.
Meanwhile, the US is posing a serious challenge in the Taiwanese market as the prices of its intercostals and shin/shank has been at least 10-20 percent lower than Australian ones.
MLA noted that this price advantage may be short-lived as US beef makes a slow return to South Korea in the next few months.
