US corn exports to remain stable, China steady

US corn exports in 2006-07 would remain stable while domestic use would drop by 630,000 tonnes (24.8 million bushels), according to the USDA's World Agricultural Supply and Demand Estimates released last week.

US corn exports were estimated at 57.15 million tonnes (2.2 billion bushels).

Contrary to this, China's corn exports would remain steady for the current marketing year compared to September's estimates. Increased corn acreage could be credited to a commendable harvest of 141 million tonnes (5.5 billion bushels) about 3 million tonnes (118 million bushels) higher than last month's estimate.

The United States which exported 54.61 million tonnes (2.1 billion bushels) in 2005/06 continues to be the world leader in corn exports, said Erick Erickson, USGC special assistant for planning, evaluation and programs.
