UK announces GBP8 million for local beef industry
UK's agricultural minister Lord Bach has announced a GBP8-million package to support the local beef industry at an industry meeting.
At the high-level meeting with farmers, processors, and retailers, he assured that the country's Department of Environment, Food, and Rural Affairs is committed to English beef's future.
The package includes a GBP5.5-million Beef Restoration Program to help English beef once European exports resume early next year, and GBP1 million for a Beef Better Returns scheme to help farmers get maximum profits from their produce.
The meeting was attended by more than 25 beef industry leaders from all sectors. A second meeting will be held by June 2006 to discuss progress.
