Australia pumps A$80 million into new pork research centre

Australia has opened a Cooperative Research Centre (CRC) for its pork industry.

Located at Adelaide University, the brand-new CRC will integrate research and development activities of leading research institutions, public and private agencies and the national representative body for Australian pig producers Australian Pork.

The Australian pork industry, universities, and governments will pump about A$81.5 million in resources into the CRC over the next seven years, with the Australian government contributing about A$26 million.

Australian Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry Minister Peter McGauran said that the inter-agency cooperation would help reduce production costs through improved feed security and greater feed conversion efficiency, and also help increase demand for high-quality niche Australian pork products.
