Bulgarian poultry breeders to receive financial support before year ends

The European Commission has approved the aid to be given to Bulgaria's poultry breeders which will reach them before the end of this year.

This is according to Deputy Agriculture and Foods Minister Tsvetan Dimitrov during the opening of an international conference and exhibition on poultry farming in Plovdiv, Southern Bulgaria, Wednesday (Oct.17) as quoted by his Ministry.

State Fund Agriculture has between BGN20 million-22 million (US$13.4 million-14.7 million) for poultry and pig farmers and they will be made available in exchange for a commitment for humane treatment of livestock, the Ministry explained. The specific amount for each farmer will depend on the number of animals in the farm.

Addressing the conference in Plovdiv, Dimitrov said that despite the challenges poultry breeders in Bulgaria have managed to make the sector competitive.
