US Georgia gets strong shrimp harvest

The shrimp harvest for this year's fall is the strongest in several years, said Georgia Shrimp Association's president.

Association president Pat Mathews says a greater amount of shrimp appeared in mid-August this year because of warmer than normal water temperatures.

The most recent data available from the Coastal Resources Division of the state Department of Natural Resources shows more than 428,000 pounds of shrimp were reported in August from Georgia waters.

Mathews says that while shrimpers have seen a greater abundance of shrimp, prices have not improved.
