The province will now allocate 1,430 hectares of alluvium to aquaculture and another 1,212 hectares of water surface to intensive cultivation, up from the current 663 hectares and 1,000 hectares, respectively.

The province currently has eight seafood processing factories with total capacity over 40,000 tonnes a year. The number is expected to double to 17 factories, producing 90,000 tonnes a year by the end of 2007, by then, local factories will need more than 270,000 tonnes of aquatic products for processing.
