German spending on pork up 1.6 percent

Germany saw a slight increase in meat consumption in 2007.

Up until the end of August 2007, demand for pork was up 1.6 percent in comparison to the figure this time last year.

Pork prices are down slightly in September 2007 than in 2006, which prices for poultry were up 13 percent. The prices of sausage meat is also up slightly.

Whether increased sales would reverse declining consumption, which has been continuing since 2003, is still uncertain.

German meat consumption fell nearly 3 percent from 60.8 kg in 2003 to 59 kg in 2006.
