China's egg industry inaugurates "World Egg Day"

China inaugurated its first "World Egg Day" Fri (Oct 13) in Beijing. The event was organised by the China Egg Scientific Technology Committee under the Agriculture Ministry and attended by former agriculture minister He Kang.

China's growth in egg output remained stable despite regional bird-flu outbreaks in 2005 affecting global egg production. Production last year reached 28.8 million tonnes. Production this year is expected to hit 30 million tonnes, or 42 percent of global production.
