Foot-and-mouth disease confirmed in Qinghai, China  
 

China's Ministry of Agriculture has confirmed a foot-and-mouth outbreak, in the north-western Qinghai Province.

A total of 53 cattle in Datong County were diagnosed with Asia Type One FMD by the National Foot-and-Mouth Disease Reference Laboratory after they showed signs of illness on Sep 30, according to the ministry.

Almost 110 cattle in the contagious areas had been culled. Other livestock were vaccinated.

The outbreak was under control, and contagious areas were sealed off and disinfected, the ministry said.
