Development of Australian cattle feedlot attracts Chinese investors

Investors from Shanghai, China, are looking at a prime farmland near Moora, Western Australia, which has received approval to be developed as one of the state's largest cattle feedlots.

As part of the local government's efforts to attract investment and boost cattle production, the property, known as Killarney, was identified in 2005as proposed site for a 14,900-head feedlot.

Given its rich groundwater reserves andundeveloped adjacent lands, the site's capacity could be expanded to 20,000 head and could be a supply sourceof live cattle or boxed beef products to neighbouring areas.

Harvey Beef was originally expected to operate the feedlot before the Chinese interest came.

According to plans, Harvey Beef will prepare cattle, from Western Australia's north, for processing at its abattoir in the South-West,

In the meantime, the Shire of Moora will be hosting a civic reception for the Chinese delegation, led by Shanghia CRED Real Estate's president, GuojieGui.
